Events in 2013

Affordable Warmth   (March)

Kathryn Shepherd from the United Sustainable Energy Agency visited us to talk about ways of cutting the cost of keeping our homes warm.   The focus was on affordability – the ideas proposed were ones for people of all income levels.

Re-Enchanting Nature   (June)

A Reflection Day arranged by Revd Liz Baker at the Well on a breezy day in June when we were able to set aside some time to listen to inspiring pieces of writing and music. We also spent some time out in the fresh air observing the birds, flowers, grasses and trees and experiencing the sounds of nature, enhanced by the strong wind.

The day also included a peaceful communion service and an excellent lunch.

Nature and Christian Faith   (September)

This was a harvest event at Mary’s Woughton-on-the-Green, not arranged by MKCEG, but we helped advertise it and a few people from our network attended.

The evening included a presentation from Nicky Saunders (MK Parks Trust) who talked about the conservation projects the Parks Trust undertake in Milton Keynes. Following this, Nigel Hopper from the Christian conservation charity A Rocha talked about some of the challenges posed by climate change.

Earthing Faith Gathering (October)

The Oxford diocese’s Earthing Faith network brought their autumn gathering to Milton Keynes so we joined them for an evening at Christ the Vine, Coffee Hall.

The focus of the evening was food and sustainability, following on from the Enough If campaign. Speakers included David Frost from World Vision, Rev Liz Baker from the Well at Willen, and Maranda St John Nicolle, Diocesan World Development Officer.

Nuclear Power – Disaster or Saviour? (November)

We repeated the debate we had last year, this time at Trinity Methodist Church, Leighton Buzzard, for their Christian Ecology local group.
